Telstra Business Award 2009

Telstra Business Awards

Telstra Business Awards

Leading legal practice Trilby Misso has become the first Queensland law firm to win a prestigious Telstra Queensland Business Award. The firm was honoured with the Panasonic Australia Medium Business Award.

Trilby Misso CEO Graeme McFadyen said the award was a tremendous recognition of the achievements of the firm’s hardworking staff.

“We are extremely proud to become the first Queensland law firm to win a Telstra business award and the honour has come in the same year that our esteemed founder Trilby Misso passed away at the age of 92,” Mr McFadyen said.

“The firm entered the Telstra awards specifically to achieve recognition for the efforts and accomplishments of our staff and this honour is all their doing.

“Trilby Misso has recognised that to consistently deliver genuinely outstanding client service we need to build and maintain a supportive workplace culture so our staff would be motivated and enthusiastic about what we do and how we do it.

“And it has worked a treat. We have achieved a remarkably productive workplace where client needs are foremost thanks to our values program and the very positive attitude and enthusiasm of our staff.

“They deliver serious competitive advantage to the firm. Their productivity and high level of job satisfaction means our staff turnover is also half the industry average.”

The other finalists in the medium business category won by Trilby Misso were McInnes Wilson Lawyers, Ritek Building Solutions, Technigro Pty Ltd and Urban Art Projects.

Hewitt Associates accredited Trilby Misso Lawyers as a 2009 Hewitt Best Employer in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). It is the first legal firm in the eight year history of the awards to be recognised.

“The Hewitt Best Employers in ANZ study is the largest employee research project and market practice audit in Australia and New Zealand,” said Mary Dimitropoulos, Hewitt’s team leader for employee engagement in Australia and New Zealand.
“Accreditation under this program represents a significant accomplishment and demonstrates that Trilby Misso has consistently achieved excellence in engaging and supporting its workforce.

“To achieve Hewitt Best Employers Accreditation status, Trilby Misso passed all three stages of the accreditation process,” Ms Dimitropoulos said. “Trilby Misso is clearly an organisation that knows its people are its best asset.”

Hewitt measures the level of staff engagement through a series of on-line surveys, focus groups and interviews.
The criteria for the Hewitt accreditation included level of engagement, leadership commitment, a compelling promise to employees, alignment of employees to the company and strategy and a differentiated high performance culture.

The Hewitt surveys have found that the average level of staff engagement in Australian companies is around 54%. Trilby Misso achieved a 79% rating.

CEO Graeme McFadyen said the Hewitt Best Employer accreditation was a great honour and a tribute to the contribution of the entire team to the company’s culture and environment. “Some years ago we recognised that to deliver on our promise of exceptional client service we needed to develop a deep culture of trust and mutual support and everything has come together extraordinarily well” Mr McFadyen said. “It has meant a lot of hard work but now that work is paying off and our clients are the principal beneficiaries”.
